Omnidirectional Projections with a Cone Mirror and Single Mirror Stereo

چکیده
In this paper we present forward and backward projection formulae for catadioptric omnidirectional vision using an arbitrarily located cone mirror and perspective camera. For the back projection a quasi closed-form solution is derived, while for the forward projection an itterative method is used. We then show that these formulae can be used to achieve stereo vision using only a single mirror, without strict alignment requirements between the cameras and the mirror.

Single-viewpoint, catadioptric cone mirror omnidirectional imaging theory and analysis.
A family of catadioptric imaging systems has been developed that can achieve omnidirectional viewing with a single planar imager while still being able to recover perspective images, provided that they satisfy the single-viewpoint (SVP) constraint. It has been shown that the only mirror shapes that can have SVP when paired with a sole focusing planar imager camera are the surfaces of revolution...
متن کاملThe Quality of Catadioptric Imaging ? Application to Omnidirectional Stereo
We investigate the influence of the mirror shape on the imaging quality of catadioptric sensors. For axially symmetrical mirrors we calculate the locations of the virtual image points considering incident quasi-parallel light rays. Using second order approximations, we give analytical expressions for the two limiting surfaces of this “virtual image zone”. This is different to numerical or ray t...
متن کاملView Based Design for Stereo Panoramic Vision Systems
Panoramic imaging is becoming an increasingly important tool in the areas of mobile robotics and machine vision. In the area of panoramic stereo imaging for range measurements two views of the one scene can be captured by a single camera using a discontinuous mirror surface. It is critical in this case to optimise mirror shapes for this application. In this paper, the needs of panoramic stereo ...
متن کاملThe True Single View Point (SVP) Configuration for Omni-Directional View Catadioptric System Using Cone Mirror
Pinhole camera model is a simplified subset of geometric optics. In special cases like the image formation of the cone (a degenerate conic section) mirror in an omnidirectional view catadioptric system, there are more complex optical phenomena involved that the simple pinhole model can not explain. We show that using the full geometric optics model a true single viewpoint cone mirror omni-direc...
متن کاملPrecise Omnidirectional Camera Calibration
Recent omnidirectional camera designs aim a conventional camera at a mirror that expands the camera’s field of view. This wide view is ideal for three-dimensional vision tasks such as motion estimation and obstacle detection, but these applications require an accurate model of the imaging process. We present a full model of the imaging process, which includes the rotation and translation betwee...
